Today’s Bitcoin Concept: Mining

Mining Bitcoins is a means to prevent double spending and inflate the currency into existence. About every 10 minutes, a miner will successfully combine the latest Bitcoin transactions with a bit of difficult mathematics and cryptography in such a way that prevent users from double spending their Bitcoins. Successfully “confirming” these transactions will also result in the Miner being awarded some new Bitcoins. Each of these transaction blocks are linked together with previous blocks in such a way that is computationally infeasible that older blocks can be forged or changed. With each new block, your confidence in the validity of previous transactions grows exponentially. This chain of transaction blocks is called “The Blockchain” and is a fundamental and very important data structure to Bitcoin. It literally contains every transaction ever made on the Bitcoin network – until the end of Bitcoin.
