Help Promote Bitcoin

These are ideas for individuals who wish to spread the word and use of Bitcoin:

  1. Buy/Sell items on Classified and Auction sites, like Craigslist and Ebay, specifically mentioning the acceptance of Bitcoins or requesting it as a payment option.
  2. Give one basic unit of your local currency (1 USD worth of Bitcoin) per week to someone actively promoting or developing for the community.
  3. Post a promotional flier on at least one community board (coffee shops, deli’s, etc) each week. Coinabul.com has some great ones!
  4. Start your own local chapter of BitcoinIntro.com’s Hidden Treasure promotion for your local Geocachers.
  5. Offer one basic unit of your local currency (1 USD worth of Bitcoin) per week to someone who’s never heard of Bitcoin. If they have an Android phone, have them install it right there and send them some Bitcoins. Otherwise, use something quick and easy like Instawallet.org or StrongCoin.com
  6. Actively seek out one merchant owner and request they accept Bitcoin as payment for their good or service. Hand out a informational flier from a merchant payment processor: bit-pay.com, btcinch.com, etc.
  7. Try to contact at least one new company, shop, cafe or other merchant and ask them to accept Bitcoins. Use web contact forms to post payment option queries, or call their customer support lines and make the request.
  8. If you run a business, post a “Bitcoin Accepted here” sign and, well, accept them!
  9. Act as a local Bitcoin dealer in your area, trading coins for cash. One of the big roadblocks to widespread bitcoin adoption is the difficulty of acquiring them – so let’s make it easier. Use BitcoinLocator.com to help people find you.
  10. Send some Bitcoins to friends and family for Christmas!
  11. Share and encourage these ideas with all your Bitcoin savvy friends!
